New York... and me!
Moving to New York at 48 was a great choice. And a great challenge. Deciding to become a tour guide after being an attorney an even bigger one.
The first time I saw New York was from the sky. My plane landed at La Guardia. The World Trade Center was still there, and the plane made a turn exactly above the towers. The city and its thousand lights welcomed me at best. Many years later, when I came on honeymoon, I told my wife: ' You'll either love or hate New York. But if you love it, you'll want to move there.' I was right!
As my days as a tour guide went on, I knew I had to find another medium to tell the city, its thousand stories and its millions of people. I added video and photography. As a video maker, I am a dork obsessed with the rule of thirds, perfect exposure and perfection, so you won't see most of my creations. As a photographer, I love showing how I see this city and its people.
As a photographer, I love showing how I see this city and its people. I like details. You will rarely see a wide angle photograph here. And if you do, it's only because it helps contextualize the story I am telling
my shoes & my camera
When I give tours, only one thing never changes: I always wear yellow shoes!
it all started one day as I was leading a small group around the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. One couple lost sight of me and they asked the ferry crew for help. 'We don't know who your guide is' said one of them, and the woman said 'He's got yellow shoes' and one of the crew said 'I know who he is!' When I got on board, the captain yelled 'Here comes the guide with the yellow shoes!'
As a photographer, I love showing how I see this city and its people.
